“You do not get to do this!”
I twisted my head as I sat on the throne. The weak were always so interesting to look at because every breath they took was mercy from the strong, and they knew it. They inhaled quickly before we could snatch the words from their lunges and then they spoke fast before repeating the cycle. It was all they had, their voice, with no wealth or physical prowess, what else could they do but hold their breath like currency.
“I am next in line, I AM KING!”
“And who decided that? A dead prophet? Our dear father who despised the idea of you since you showed weakness towards our mother?”
His throat clenched as I stood from the stone seat, blood dripping from my hands. I had to fight to get here and it was well worth it.
“News flash little brother. The dead don’t decide shit.”
He watched me with hatred in his brows. I always thought he was too nice to produce a face like that.
“Mother made a mistake.”
“Oh please, mother was a harlot.” I rolled my eyes, “She was a slut through and through and don’t get me wrong little brother, there’s nothing wrong with that, but she was also weak. She got caught and she cried like a baby.”
“Because she knew her fate, she was to be beheaded-“
“Oh, how tragic.”
I wiped the blood from my hands onto the pants of the soldier beside me. He was loyal and didn’t care what I did. He gave me council and it was often the cruelest advice I ever heard, and I loved it because it meant he would never betray me. He was too apathetic to give a damn about anyone but himself and whoever sat on the throne, and that would forever be me.
“Well, it was nice conversing with you brother but I have a kingdom to run.” I stepped down from my throne and the soldier followed. My brother seethed as I passed him and grabbed my arm. It was comical how he didnt even have the strength to halt me, i stopped on my own accord and pulled my arm from his grip. My bicep was larger than his whole torso, I couldn’t believe that I had been cursed with such a pathetic sibling.
“I will rally the people against you. Not everyone will bow to your will and when we ask you to step down you must, or face the consequences.”
I stepped up to him, close and personal, we were the same height and I smiled at the anger creasing through his veins.
“Ask? You’ll ask me to step down? Brother our advisor was dead at my feet two seconds ago and you want to ASK me to step down?”
I laughed at how naive he had grown. “You can put the whole kingdom against me if you wish, but you’ll never win because of that. You don’t have the force necessary to overthrow me nor the will. You are a coward, and your cowardice allies will drop in the same direction you will fall. I’m giving you a chance to shut the fuck up and let me help our people, but so help me god if you lift a hand, a word, towards my opposition, i will kill you.”
I unsheathed my sword and let the tip of it hit our marble flooring with a ‘ding’, then i told him once more.
“Im serious. I will kill you.”
He stood there for a second longer then huffed and rushed past me. The soldier had not kept his eyes off me.
“My queen,” He said, “Will you be able to do it?”
This was how I lost the war. This was the first step to my demise.
I told him that I didn’t know.
