The mountains spoke my name softer than any man. I thought at first it must’ve been a mistake, that the wind in my ear was playing a prank and pretending to pass on a message out of sheer boredom, but then i looked. I followed the winds direction and watched as a mountain moved for me. The ground trembled from its strength and i got low to avoid falling from the pile of rocks that i was standing on. Then, as i stood back up, the mountain spoke to me directly. I can see your bloodline, they said, your lineage is dowsed in misery and hatred disguised as passivism, that is the way of your people but i hardly see any pain in you, how have you changed your nature?
I wanted to know why they were asking, but i knew this being was older than any questions i could muster and i got scared.
I don’t know, i said. They weren’t pleased.
As vast as you humans are and you sit here and tell me you don’t know?
I bit my inner cheek. I am barely a spec of dust in the grand scheme of this infinite universe, i sighed, what do you want from me?
Answers.
I don’t have those.
We watched each other until the mountain laughed as they returned to their previous hilltops, the ground trembling even more now. I understand, they said, you have no pain in your heart because you have no grievances stuck in that tiny body of yours. Your ancestors would be proud, you have found the words they could not speak.
