He looked like hell. He was running from a pack of those things and he looked like he’d trip any-oh there it is. Well he’s dead, next.
Oh her, ok, she has the agility but no sense of direction. Did she just run head first into one? Yeah no, next.
Holy fuck! That guy just slept two with a bat! He could be a good ally! Wait, is that car going to- yep ok moving on.
Truth be told, finding an ally for the apocalypse is genuinely hard. Everyone’s either oblivious, selfish or stupid, I wonder which category I’m in. I mean I created them after all but I wouldn’t call that stupid or oblivious. And given why I’ve done it, Selfish does seem to fit me most. Not like I care.
I got what I wanted in the end, my husband. He’s chained in the living room and he’s not dead anymore!
There’s still a few kinks to work out to make sure he doesn’t try to go all CHOMP on me but for the most part he’s back. He can move, his face can contort to show any emotion. With time, maybe he could speak.
And the screams behind me, the sirens I see out of the window and the fires, it’s all completely irrelevant.
I don’t care about them. Let society crumble for my genius, the point was never to save anyone but him.
And here he is. Angry that I won’t let him have a little taste of my arm, growling nonsense that I want so hard to understand as I rub my hand down his clothed cheek, I smile at what is yet to come.
I will save him, because even if the world dies, Death will have to fight me for him.
